SilMan Honors Safety Team

June is National Safety Month (#nsm)

National Safety Month

In recognition of National Safety Month (NSM), we are honoring our tireless Safety Team.

On behalf of the entire Team, thank you to our Safety Team for giving us the tools we need to succeed at job #1, as expressed by our safety slogan:

“Our goal is to send our entire team home, safely, each and every day.”

And from this same impulse, we proudly embrace the work of the National Safety Council (NSC) and the observation of #NSM.

The Proof: our Team at Work

The video above features photographs of our team’s super-safe work in the field, and below we have offered an excerpt of an addendum to the SilMan JHA in response to the Coronavirus pandemic.

A Culture of Safety

Safety is an integral part of life at SilMan, in every workspace from our home offices to high-risk electrical or structural projects.

Behind every policy or practice at SilMan there is a tiny, but mighty team of safety professionals that pour their heart into the well-being of our team:

  • Dena Gann
  • Mike Watchers
  • Scott Harding

Their mission has 100% support from senior management. But it is their clear-headed policies and vital day-to-day guidance that has won over the team. Under this trio’s tutelage, the team has embraced safety best-practices with a vengeance.

A Message to the Team

As we thank this special Team-within-a-Team and recognize the importance of workplace safety,  Tom Mangin has asked to share a few words for our team members and guests:

“When it comes to focusing on the most important aspect of our projects, safety is our top priority. Without embracing this philosophy and creating the safest environment for everyone to do their best, there is no way to deliver on all the other important aspects of a project, such as quality, efficiency, and satisfaction for all stakeholders. We are truly grateful for the steadfast support our Safety Team delivers on a daily basis.  Without a safe place to work, we are left with very little.”

Excerpt of COVID-19 Jobsite Plan

The coronavirus pandemic has had a deep impact on the industrial sector.  The effects on daily operations at manufacturing and supply chain businesses are likely to last for a long time.

At the onset of the CV19 response nationwide, the SilMan Safety Team prepared an addendum to our JHA specifically addressing new operations for our field teams.

In celebration of National Safety Month, and in recognition of our  safety team’s capacity, we are sharing this document once again.

Title: COVID Exposure Control & Response Plan

stop covid19

Purpose and Scope

The purpose of this plan is to provide current information to our team and outline the steps that SilMan and our partners can take to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19. The plan describes how to prevent worker exposure to coronavirus, protective measures to be taken on the job site, personal protective equipment, and work practice controls to be used, cleaning and disinfecting procedures, and what to do if a worker becomes sick or infected.

The scope of this plan covers all field and office operations on a daily basis, during this global crisis. The scope of this plan will cease as soon as the government (both Federal and State agencies) have lowered the coronavirus spread risk to a controllable level and lifted the ‘shelter-in-place’ mandates across the country and we are able to return to our normal workplaces.

COVID-19 Control Statement

SilMan takes the health and safety of our Team members very seriously. With the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) a respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, we all must remain vigilant to mitigate the outbreak. This is particularly true for the construction industry, which (in part) has been deemed “essential” during this recently declared National Emergency. In order to stay healthy and maintain operations, we have developed this COVID-19 Exposure Control and Response Plan to be implemented on all of our worksites. We have identified key team members to monitor current information and guidance from the ‘government’ [i.e. Trump Administration, US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the World Health Organization (WHO), and/or State Health Departments and your local county/city public agencies].

NOTE: This plan is only based on the most current and available information from the government and is subject to change as new information is provided. Based on governmental changes and/or potential impacts to our operations, SilMan may also amend this plan at any time.
