Conveyor Sortation Systems & Equipment

Sortation in a Warehouse

There is a seemingly endless number of potential sortation tasks that can arise in a warehouse of a distribution or fulfillment center.

Induction: As cartons are received into the facility there are a number of destinations for the package’s first stop. For instance, immediate fulfillment of open orders, long-term inventory, and cross-dock for immediate shipping.

Fulfillment: Picked items may be assigned to multiple locations, including packing, additional processing (such as value-added services), palletizing, and shipping.

Types of Sortation Equipment

The choice of equipment for a material handling system is determined by the type of items to be sorted and the speed of the conveyor system.

Item types include boxes/cartons, pallets, or individual products.

Just as there is a wide variety of destinations for packages, there are many tools that have been devised to execute these journeys.

  • Pusher, Deflector Arm, Pop-up Wheel Sorter, Diverter, Shoe Sorter, Singulator, Tilt Sorter, Bomb Bay
