SilMan Industries Celebrates the National Association of Women in Construction, 2023

Careers for Women in the Industrial Sector

Today is International Women’s Day, landing in the middle of the National Association of Women in Construction Week! [Learn more about their work.]

SilMan heartily embraces the NAWIC mission “Leading Builders, Building Leaders” and welcomes the opportunity to mark the occasion by showing off the amazing women in our ranks.

We see no need to offer a carefully crafted treatise about the importance of inclusion. That case is closed.

Inclusivity is a business asset that directly contributes to our competitiveness. To think otherwise in the 21st century diminishes a company’s impact on its market.

Instead, we have decided to give an opportunity for our team members to share their thoughts about the contribution of our female colleagues.

Team Member Testimonials for the Women of SilMan

Tom

I learned long ago not to underestimate the strength, wisdom, and perspective of women in our workplace, in our community, and at our home. SilMan Industries is dedicated to growing the number of women in construction in every aspect of our planning, production, administration, and leadership.

Abhinesh

Construction Accounting is not easy. It takes a lot of organization skills, patience, detail orientation, and professionalism to be firm when additional clarification is needed. These qualities are very important to building a process-driven department based and maintaining checks and balances.

Angel

I would like to give Maria a huge shootout. She has the best attitude! I’m extremely grateful that she is always ready to support my team. Even if she doesn’t have an answer handy, she goes out of her way to find a solution. With so many unpredictable elements in the field, it gives my team confidence that we can keep the schedule with the constant support from Maria and her team.

Garrett

Having women’s perspectives in the workplace is especially valuable, particularly in the field of construction. The women in the Tupelo office often provide perspective and context to many situations which we may overlook.

Rick

Before forming my thoughts, I asked my teammate Viviana what she thought about the contribution of women in construction. She responded with “I never think about me as bringing anything that has a “woman’s touch. I bring what any professional would offer.”

I love that as a summary of what inclusivity is all about. It’s not that women bring something “different” to our industry. The real topic is that we have a continual need for more skilled professionals in every area, and women are under-represented.
