Virtual All-Team Meeting

Virtual Platform Connects National Team

Live Webcast increases internal engagement and transparency

SilMan Industries launched a new live webcast team meeting platform on Wednesday, January 9, 2019.  This action is a reflection of the company’s pursuit of Continuous Improvement in all aspects of their operations.

SilMan Industries is experiencing rapid growth.  Furthermore, there is a great deal of internal activity in store for the company in 2019, including new accounting software and a year-long re-branding project.   With this heightened level of internal collaboration, leadership recognized the need for increased effectiveness of their internal communications.

“We have a long tradition of keeping the team at the center of our focus,” said co-founder Rick Silva. “Now, with offices and projects in multiple states, we are capitalizing on readily available technologies to keep our team connected and engaged,” he continued.

In addition to creating a channel for leadership to directly reach the team, the interactive nature of webcasts will also be a vehicle for increased dialogue and exchange of news.  Including direct reports from job sites.

Tommy Ethridge, general manager of Southern operations in Tupelo, Miss. witnessed the impact at his office.  “Our office houses the national engineering team, so we work with just about everyone in the company on a daily basis,” Ethridge said.  “Nonetheless, the power of having the whole team connected in a shared moment created a buzz in our office for the rest of the day.”

Co-founder Tom Mangin reflected on the day, as well: “Technology has made it possible for our team to be highly productive. Sometimes this intense focus on performance can separate us, both at work and in our personal lives.  I am committed to keeping SilMan a satisfying and enriching place, using technology to protect the personal touch we have labored to create at SilMan.”

Continuous Improvement at SilMan

SilMan has a deep association with Continuous Improvement, or “kaizen.”  Many of the team members who came together in the earliest iterations of the company worked extensively with Toyota before joining SilMan, both in the United States and in Japan.  These proved to be formative experiences for these professionals.  The principals they learned continue to be exercised and developed as SilMan grows and prospers.

The company plans to conduct monthly virtual team meetings.
