SilMan Lands in San Diego With FedEx Express

Air Terminal Improvements Deepen Relationship with Carrier

San Leandro, Calif.: FedEx has engaged SilMan Industries to implement a truck deck addition to the parcel carrier’s San Diego airport facility.

In the ever-increasing speed of delivery expected by businesses and households, FedEx consistently takes a proactive posture to maintain its market-leading position.

With this attention to every detail in the chain of transmission of a parcel, FedEx is adding a truck deck material handling system to accelerate the speed and ease that packages may be transferred between their air and road operations.

The upgraded operation will also provide improvements to employee safety with improved physical motions and traffic patterns, and avoiding dangerous lifts.

Truck Deck Project

Team SilMan has begun work on this new system, featuring a 40k sq/ft caster deck as its centerpiece. The fully-executed project will integrate multiple applications, including weight capture, lifts, controllers, and safety elements. Improvements to the area are also required, such as bollards and guardrails.

SilMan’s mechanical and electrical teams will be deployed to the site, managed from the company’s headquarters in San Leandro, California, and supported by SilMan’s Tupelo-based engineering team.

Chris Fredrickson, project manager for SilMan, said “we are pleased to deepen our relationship with FedEx on this project. Our Material Handling team has done great work for them inside the walls, now we have an opportunity to demonstrate our expertise of what we can do for them as a facility improvement, specialty equipment, and civil construction partner.”

Equipment partners for the project are Talos Engineered Products (caster deck), Southworth Products (scissor lifts), and Avery Weigh-Tronix (caster scale).
