Whirlpool Engages SilMan for Assembly Line Improvements

Equipment and design updates increase throughput at Whirlpool plant
San Leandro, Calif.: Whirlpool Corporation has awarded SilMan Industries a contract to provide material handling solutions for the manufacturer’s washing machine operation in Findlay, Ohio. This is SilMan’s first contract with Whirlpool and continues the growth of its manufacturing portfolio in the Midwest and Mid-South regions. The project will be managed from the integrator’s regional office in Bardstown, Kentucky.
About the Project
The scope of work for the project includes system design and engineering, conveyance equipment, mechanical installation, and electrical installation. Controls equipment, software, and training are to be provided in the package, featuring Cognex scanners and a variety of stationary and handheld readers, sensors, and HMI panels.
Camron Franklin, who leads the SilMan team for the project said, “the close-knit integration of our engineering, installation, and account management functions allowed us to bring fresh, unexpected solutions to this situation. The result refines control of their system and provides data and tools to continually improve performance.”
Key SilMan team members on the project include Todd Sadler, Kevin Jackson, Keith Hiyama, and Michael Proctor, with additional engineering support by Harrison Rupp from SilMan’s Tupelo-based engineering group.
